SEAN O'CONNELL'S Mark Yates

I have been researching how the important consideration of material can lead to a cohesive interaction between object, form, and concept. The process of engaging with the connections between objects and things in the human world, rather the objects themselves, is one that Tasmanian Artist and Designer Sean O’Connell feels is key in his practise. Shown are images from O’Connell’s ‘Golden Repairs’ series, where he replaced broken components on everyday objects with solid gold.

I am drawn to this process of capturing and recreating the spaces or parts of objects that no longer exist or are broken. The process of reinstating importance to insignificant objects through the exploration of connections between materials is one that I am going to pursue.
