Prototyping and testing. The process any designer must traverse through if they seek to create the ultimate design. Dunsmuir is no different. For his works, he’s run through multiple designs and layouts to correct any issues, no matter how minor they are. For a designer like Rye, who’s products mainly consist of furniture and dining accessories, he must not only create and test products until he’s happy with the result, but also make sure they’re tested for how well they can be used. He pushed through this process with his XO dining chair, with an array of prototypes and the final XO chair on display at Design Tasmania in the Be Seated exhibition.
