In response to Simon Ancher’s bespoke couch, I chose to reflect on his use of material, form and process. What appealed to me from Simon’s work, was his simple, clean defined lines, contrasting with colour, shape and geometry juxtaposed with detail. I admire the appearance of the simple design and the use of material— a lost resource.

I set out to create a uniform solid object that both encompasses and conveys an aesthetic, feeling and an emotional response.
It has contrasting edges playing with light surfaces, sharp edges, blending and smooth faces. It can act as a visual or tactile source. Functioning as an object it does not have an intended function. This is actually dependent on the consumer’s choice.

The scale of my object reflects my aim to create an object that remains static and in place. Taking me back to Simon’s couch in which he wanted it to be inviting in, in all angles. I wanted to achieve this too in my own personal form Static Wave.
