The house is repaired using different materials and techniques – copper, timber, plaster and even words. Each of the raw materials have limitations and negative connotations – to create the plaster cast, a plasticised rubber mould was required, which after the repair becomes waste.
The four physical recreations of the lost space are not permanently attached. To do so would contradict the knowledge that a future repair may be necessary. Understanding the connotative shift required, demands an acknowledgment of an object’s aesthetic appearance as a continuum, rather than a singular unchanging quality. The individual recreations therefore are interchangeable, each transformation repairing the emotional connection and importance the house contains.
