I am drawn to Emily Snadden’s jewellery designs by how they celebrate the endemic Tasmanian flora, timelessly.

She frequently uses silver in her designs – mainly sterling silver, which achieves a lustrous, delicate look, while concurrently possessing the durability to retain its desired form. Containing 5-20% copper alloy, sterling silver is the prevailing choice of silver for jewellers universally.

Silver can become malleable through annealing, which when done regularly allows the metal to be manipulated into nearly any shape imaginable.

The high conductivity and reflectiveness of silver make it useful in a range of other applications including photography, mirrors and electronics.
